Breast Implant Removal

Discomfort is typically most noticeable during the first few days after surgery and is often described as soreness or tightness, rather than sharp pain. Dr. Daly’s approach minimizes trauma to the surrounding tissue, and most women find that prescription medication or over-the-counter options are more than enough to manage any discomfort.

In most cases, you’ll have about 3 to 5 appointments, from consultation to full recovery. Your jou ey begins with a detailed consultation and a pre-operative appointment to review the plan, review any necessary labs, and address any final questions. After surgery, you’ll retu for several follow-ups (typically at one day, one week, two weeks, six weeks, and six months) to ensure you’re healing beautifully and comfortably. Initial changes are visible almost immediately after surgery, but it’s important to allow your body time to settle and heal before evaluating the final outcome. Swelling and bruising will gradually subside over the first few weeks, revealing a clearer sense of your natural shape. Most women begin to feel more at home in their new silhouette around 6 to 8 weeks, with full results continuing to refine up to 6 months post-op.

Breast implant removal is often performed alongside a breast lift (mastopexy) to restore a perky appearance, especially if natural breast tissue has stretched over time. For women who want to maintain as much breast volume as possible after an implant removal, Dr Daly uses a technique called breast lift with auto-augmentation to enhance and preserve as much breast volume as possible. Others may opt for fat transfer to subtly and naturally enhance volume. Depending on your goals, implant removal can also be paired with body contouring procedures, such as liposuction or tummy tuck surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Daly will take the time to understand your desired outcome and walk you through any recommended combinations that support both aesthetic harmony and safe recovery.

Many women are conce ed about what their breasts will look like after removing their breast implants. While removing breast implants will necessarily make breasts somewhat smaller, when indicated, Dr. Daly uses a technique called breast lift with auto-augmentation to lift and preserve as much of your native breast tissue as possible at the time of your implant removal. “Auto-augmentation” refers to shaping and placing the natural tissue of the breast in such a way as to augment the breast in place of an implant. This technique creates a perky, lifted breast that preserves as much of your natural breast as possible.
